Car Accessories
As the mechanical technology of automobiles has evolved,
so have car accessories. Ever since it became apparent that the automobile
was going to be a staple and a desired status symbol across the country,
considerable thought has been put into building car accessories to optimize
the driving experience.
Some of these accessories, like the car heater, have been nearly around
as cars have (1890). Similarly, the earliest disc brakes were patented
by Frederick William Lanchester as far back as 1901 (admittedly, brake
technology has come a long way since then). Other innovations such as
the air bag did not show up for years. Current engineers and inventors
continue to push the accessories envelope.
For some looking to purchase a new car, the accessories are as important
as that which is under the hood. This accessories demand has led to
a market for customized rims, automatic lights, auto-locking doors,
voice-activated car ignitions, and so forth. Many of these features
are becoming standard on new automobiles, just as we see the radio,
heater and air conditioning as standard features today.
