Truck Parts
The first motor truck design is credited to the German
automotive designer Gottlieb Daimler in 1896. This truck featured a
four-horsepower engine and a belt drive with two forward streets. In
essence, it was the first pickup truck.
With time, pickup trucks took on an identity and branding of their
own, separate from other automobiles. Their most distinguishable feature
is the bed of the truck. The bed does not come equipped with any seats
and is designed to haul equipment rather than passengers.
Just as the uses and capabilities of the truck vary, so do the parts
that complete it. There are many carry-overs, of course—seat belts,
transmissions, radiators—but the truck features some particular
parts. In general, trucks tend to come with larger wheels, and often
are equipped with four-wheel drive. They are meant to be heavy-duty
and durable, and the parts that make them up reflect this.
